Sandy Schilder and Melissa Dewey Brumback Presented at the NCBA Construction Law Section Winter Seminar

Civil Defense Litigators Sandy Schilder and Melissa Dewey Brumback presented the CLE “Strategic Considerations and Best Practices for Defending Against Multiparty Defect Claims” for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Construction Law Section 2024 Winter Seminar on February 15th.  Sandy and Melissa discussed benefits and risks of being involved in complex, multi-party construction defect lawsuits and expounded on the pros and cons of crossclaims, tolling agreements, contractual roles, joint defense agreements and sharing experts.

For more than 25 years, both Sandy and Melissa have defended architects and engineers in hundreds of construction and professional liability cases of all sizes, usually involving multi-party lawsuits. They have extensive experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and agreements in all aspects of the industry as well. Sandy is Chair of the NCBA’s Construction Law Section Council.  Melissa serves as a Council Member of the Section, and is a panel member of the American Arbitration Association in Construction Law.
