Ragsdale Liggett partner, John Nunnally, along with Mike Bassett of Chartwell Law, Dallas office, delivered a significant webinar on behalf of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Transportation Law Section entitled “Broker Liability After Montgomery: What Every Defense Lawyer Must Do Now.” The webinar was a deep dive analysis of the US Supreme Court’s recent Montgomery decision, which held that federal law does not preempt state specific safety related claims against brokers. This new environment reshapes the broker exposure and impacts shipper broker contracts, carrier vetting, and insurer defense strategies. As experienced trucking litigators, Mike and John deal with these issues regularly. In addition to analyzing the decision, they discussed immediate steps that the industry must take, as well as long-term strategies for successfully defending these claims.
