Dottie Burch was speaker at Halifax County Horse Council meeting on April 20th.

Ragsdale Liggett Equine Attorney Dottie Burch gave a presentation at the April 20, 2023, meeting of the Halifax County Horse Council entitled “Equine Liability & Contract Issues for Horse Owners.” The presentation highlighted areas of liability for horse owners and gave recommendations of ways to reduce this liability, including via proper documentation.  In a lively discussion, Dottie addressed typical liability and contract issues that she sees in the equine industry and offered suggestions for resolving these issues. The Halifax County Horse Council is a member of the North Carolina Horse Council and represents the common interests of horse enthusiasts in Halifax County and surrounding regions.

Dottie Burch is widely considered to be the preeminent equine lawyer in North Carolina. As a long-time equestrian with direct knowledge of horse-related legal issues, her equine law practice is complemented with over thirty years as a practitioner in business, insurance and real property law.  Additionally, Dottie is highly involved with the North Carolina Horse Council as both a director and a member of its Executive Committee. She is also the Past Chair of the American Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee’s Equine Law Subcommittee and regularly speaks and writes on a variety of equine law subjects.
