William W. Pollock, Partner, Litigation
Bill Pollock is a partner and member of the litigation group. Prior to joining Ragsdale Liggett, he was a partner at Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog in Raleigh and began his career with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Washington, DC. Mr. Pollock's practice of twenty three years is concentrated in construction law, products liability, environmental and toxic torts, trucking and transportation and other complex litigation.
Bill's clients include general contractors, developers, architects, engineers, product manufacturers, trucking companies, insurance and surety companies and agencies. He has handled matters in North Carolina Superior Courts and all Federal District Courts as well as the North Carolina Court of Appeals, North Carolina Supreme Court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. As lead counsel, Bill has tried over 30 cases before a jury with favorable results in more than 90% of these cases.
Mr. Pollock is the current membership chair and past director of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and was accepted by invitation of the National Association of Home Builders to represent North Carolina on the NAHB's Construction Law Attorney Forum. He serves on the Board of Directors and is Treasurer of the North Carolina Legal Education Assistance Foundation. Mr. Pollock has presented numerous seminars on construction law and litigation, and has authored several articles for these audiences.
Bill was selected to the North Carolina Legal Elite by Business North Carolina magazine which honors attorneys chosen by their peers as "best in their field" where fewer than 3% of the state's 19,000 member lawyers make this list. He is also the recipient of the esteemed Martindale Hubbell AV rating.
Mr. Pollock resides in Raleigh with his wife Maggie and children Alex and Anne and attends White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he has taught Sunday School for several years. He is the Secretary and Executive Board Member for the Broughton High School Caps Club and has served on the Board of Directors of the Tarheel Swim Association.
Experience Highlights:

Established new precedent in North Carolina by obtaining favorable ruling from the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals holding that no implied warranty claims could be brought against manufacturer of component parts incorporated into construction project.

Lead defense counsel in three week trial involving allegations of health problems caused by mold in an office building that resulted in a dismissal of claims against the plaintiff's employer and co-employer.

Lead defense counsel in a six week environmental trial in which 75 plaintiffs sought $225 million for injuries arising from contaminated water from a private water system. The trial resulted in a complete defense verdict.

National coordinating counsel for over 300 construction defect suits arising out of the manufacturing and sale of synthetic stucco (EIFS).

Counsel for performing plaintiff in cost recovery action for largest North Carolina Superfund clean-up site.

Obtained defense verdict for trucking company for multiple claims arising out of 18 vehicle interstate highway collision.

Obtained defense verdict in wrongful death suit against highway contractor for death occurring in a construction zone on an interstate highway.

Obtained dismissal of all claims against contractor for allegations of mold in construction of custom home.

Established new precedent in North Carolina by obtaining dismissal of all extra-contractual claims against a surety company on performance bonds.

Obtained dismissal of wrongful death action against government owner for claim involving two deaths which occurred during construction of water tower. Obtained dismissal of all claim for personal injury against fertilizer manufacturer.
