Carrie Barbee, Associate, Litigation Carrie Barbee is an associate in the firm’s litigation department and dedicates her practice primarily to business litigation and business defense. Her business defense practice focuses on the representation of design professionals on construction projects. Her practice also extends to general business litigation, defense of businesses and professionals from various state regulatory bodies, and general construction claims. Carrie has represented clients in state court, the business court, and federal court in North Carolina, as well as in mediation and arbitration. Carrie is admitted to practice in North Carolina, and the Federal Court of the United States, Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina, as well as the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Prior to becoming an attorney, Carrie worked for Congressman Mike McIntyre from the Seventh Congressional District of North Carolina. During this time, Carrie tracked federal legislation on issues including banking, transportation, and children, answered constituent mail, and served as liaison for Congressional Membership Organizations. During her tenure in law school, Carrie worked at the North Carolina Department of Justice, fulfilling responsibilities including analyzing election law, government contracting, and other issues for Attorney General advisements and opinions; researching issues for workplace violence legislation; and writing weekly legislative reports. Carrie also worked as a summer associate for Everett, Gaskins, Hancock & Stevens, researching and preparing memoranda, pleadings, and motions relating to construction law and other issues, participating in hearings, and attending depositions and trials. Carrie also served as an extern in the office of Chief Judge John Martin of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Carrie comes to Ragsdale Liggett from private practice in which she represented individuals and companies in litigation, as well as before government agencies. A native of Raleigh, Carrie takes an active interest in local philanthropic activities. She is a member of the Board for the Frankie Lemmon School & Developmental Center, a school for children ages three to six with developmental disabilities. She is a member of the Junior League of Raleigh, having served as a member of the Planning Team, chair of the Literary Luncheon, and chair of the Carolina Color Gallery fundraiser. She is also active in local bar activities, serving as Vice-Chair of the Wake County Bar Association’s Public Service Committee, and serving as the Chair of the Young Lawyers’ Division Public Service Committee. In addition to these local organizations, Carrie volunteers for the negotiation skills training seminar for first year law students at the University of North Carolina School of Law, serving as a moderator for mock settlement negotiations between the students. She is also a member of the American Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association and the Wake County Bar Association. Born in Raleigh, Carrie graduated from St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware in 1995. In 1999, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Wayne Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University, and she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2004. She currently lives in Raleigh. |
